Parapsychological Studies: The Study of Psychic Phenomena.
Contrary to what so many believe, the field of Parapsychology studies much more than ghosts and hauntings. Parapsychologists are generally not very psychic (and psychics are rarely parapsychologists). Parapsychology is not “paranormal psychology.” So, what’s the field all about? Just who are the parapsychologists and what do they do?
This 60 hour course is an overview
to the field of Parapsychology, and the main areas of research and
investigation:
If all six courses are taken as a Certificate in Parapsychological Studies, the application, materials, texts, and STRF fees are included in the tuition price of $1000.00
The Certificate in Parapsychological Studies is a 60 course of study comprised of six separate courses. The course syllabus follows.
Instructor: Loyd Auerbach, MS
Course
Descriptions (see below for 2005-2006 Schedule and info on distance learning
options)
Introduction to Parapsychology: 2.5
hours: $25
In relation to PK, he'll delve into: what parapsychologists and many others know today about PK, how it manifests itself, and how it hints at the broader interconnectedness
between our consciousnesses and the Universe around us.
There will be an experiential PK segment to this class, working with a method for PK developed by the late (great) science and science fiction writer Martin Caidin,, himself capable of PK.
As for Precognition, Auerbach
will cover questions such as: Can anyone
really predict the Future? How?
Is there really a Future that
can be predicted? What is Time?
Can we change the Future?
Why do so many psychics miss on
their predictions?
What about the premonitions of the average person?
Parapsychologists have evidence that precognition exists.
Research indicates that people can predict some future events, but not all.
Sometimes precognition works well, and sometimes not.
Loyd Auerbach will discuss a variety of theories of Time and Timelines especially in the context of our apparent ability to predict the Future. He’ll cover the varied ways precognitive information pops up in our lives and some of the interesting research in Parapsychology. He’ll discuss conclusions reached by researchers about the nature of our ability to foretell the future.
Finally, there will be a focus on a conundrum in parapsychology: Do we predict the future or cause it to come into being with a little help from our PK? If the former, how do we use this information to shape our own personal Futures?
If the latter, what does that say about our beliefs and expectations, and how all humanity consciously and unconsciously shapes the Future? Join us for what will be a mind bending experience.
With an overview of how psychic abilities show up in people’s experiences the world over, this class/seminar focuses on the “informational” psychic abilities that have been called Extra-Sensory Perception: telepathy, clairvoyance and precognition. We’ll discuss how these abilities show up in people’s experiences, both those of the average person and the ostensibly more “talented” psychics.
With discussion of
parapsychological research from the early days to the more recent remote
viewing, ganzfeld, and staring studies, attendees will also learn the evolution
of research methods in the laboratory, and what parapsychological researchers
have discovered with regard to personality, physiological and belief
variables. We’ll discuss how
these abilities are experienced and accepted or rejected in various cultures
around the world, and the major part Belief plays in having and developing
Psychic development will be addressed and some techniques passed along. Basic philosophy behind “being psychic” will be discussed, as well as a primary focus on immense part that Belief plays. We’ll also discuss the role telepathy and clairvoyance play in ghost encounters, hauntings and mediumship.
We’ll discuss how these
abilities are experienced and accepted or rejected in various cultures around
the world, and the major part Belief plays in having and developing
We’ll take some time to try a few more experiential situations.
We’ll conduct some clairvoyance and remote viewing “tests” as well as play a few telepathy and psychometry games based somewhat on the instructor’s experience of a TV game show that was in development for the Game Show Network in 2002 (that show currently in limbo, it seems).
Finally, there will be discussion of how to assess psychic readings and even the backgrounds of self-professed psychics, parapsychologists, and paranormal investigators.
Do we survive the death of our bodies? Is there Life after Death? What is the evidence?
This seminar will cover the search for evidence of Survival of Bodily Death from the earliest psychical researchers to parapsychologists of today. With an eye towards the evidence garnered and the research and investigations methods to gather it -- the class covers topics such as ghosts, mediumship, near death experiences, electronic voice phenomena, out of body experiences, reincarnation and psychic experience says about whether we live on in some fashion after the deaths of our bodies.
Some time will also be spent discussing the recent research of Gary Schwartz, working with psychic mediums at the University of Arizona and the work of the Division of Personality Studies at the University of Virginia in Reincarnation and Apparition research.
The importance of
The class will also look at the debate regarding evidence for Survival vs. the Super-Psi hypothesis from the perspective of the Survival proponents.
This short course covers basic models of how psychic abilities seem to work, what apparitions and hauntings are, and a survey of theories that might (or might not) explain it all. Also, covered, will be the current state-of-the-art of the research in parapsychology.
This short course covers how and why the field of Parapsychology pulls from so many other fields of Science. With discussion of the connections to Social Science (particularly Psychology, Anthropology, and Sociology) and Physical Science (mainly Physics, with a touch of Cosmology), the class will look at how the knowledge base, research and investigation methods, theories, philosophy, and speculation have impacted how parapsychologists have conducted both their in-laboratory research and out of lab field investigations since the beginnings of the field in the 19th Century.
Most people are interested in the paranormal phenomena we class as “ghostly”: Apparitions, Hauntings and Poltergeists. Many are interested in understanding their own experiences and the experiences of others. Many are intensely interested in gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to be an effective investigator of such things: a Ghost Hunter.
This class is a guide to ghost hunting, and attendees will gain the basic skills and understanding for investigation of ghosts, poltergeists, haunted places and related psychic experiences. The class will include the models of what these things are (from the field of parapsychology), how the scientific and psychic approaches can mesh together, and how to assess a situation, investigate it, and resolve the case to the satisfaction of the people having the experiences (and hopefully to the satisfaction of the ghosts, when they’re involved).
You will learn about: Apparitions, hauntings and poltergeists: differences and similarities;
What else can make a “ghost”? The investigative process, from initial call to resolution;
Technology & Psychics in ghost hunting; How the techniques of the professionals differ from those of the amateurs; Psychic potential for investigators; The ethics of paranormal investigating; How his investigations have affected Auerbach’s own personal outlook on life.
Naturally, the class will include some of Auerbach’s more exciting cases.
2007-2008 Course Schedule will be posted shortly, or
go to the HCH website.
Currently, classes will generally be held on Thursday
nights from 6:30 to
(unless otherwise noted; we are adding weekend sessions in 2006)

Courses may be taken individually or the six courses taken to fulfill the requirements for the Certificate in Parapsychological Studies. The application fee, tuition, required books and STRF fees are all included in the tuition for the Certificate Program if paid all at one time. Otherwise, books and fees are in addition to the individual course tuition.
DISTANCE
LEARNING OPTION
The Certificate program may be taken via a distance learning option.
All
courses have been audio-taped, live.
This includes lectures, discussion and
questions/answers between students and the instructor.
To
participate in the distance learning option, distance learning students
pay full tuition and fees. Students
receive all course CDs (mp3 format),
handouts, required books, and additional
materials.
In addition, distance learning students
will be scheduled for a one to two hour
tele-class (via telephone) with the instructor (longer classes get two hours,
shorter classes get 1 hour tele-class).
In this way, students will still be able to
interact and ask questions of the instructor without having to be in the
classroom.
Naturally, students may interact via email as well.
For
each certificate-related course, there will be a short multiple choice test
to ensure the material has been understood by the students.
Distance-learning
students completing the program will be entitled to
the same Certificate received by local students attending in-person.
CDs
of courses will also be made available at a reduced price for those people
who simply want the information, and do not want to participate in the
Certificate program. The classes
are available on disc in mp3 format.
We
are now allowing distance learning students to dial in to a conference call
number
during the scheduled class times in order to participate in the live onsite
classes as well.
