MIND OVER MATTER SURVEY

This survey is from Loyd Auerbach's book, MIND OVER MATTER (Kensington Books, 1996)

One of the things I and others in my field have noticed over the years is the fact that people, once they know they will be listened to and taken seriously, often have experiences they would like to share in the realm of psychic or anomalous phenomena. Often surveys are done by organizations such as Ropers or Gallup or by sociologists, all of whom try for a random sampling of the population to look at overall belief and experiential factors. One skeptic told me that by trying to do a survey of psychic experiences, it might be a bit biased since people who don't believe in such things would probably not fill them out or answer questions such as many of those below. He noted that surveys such as these don't accurately reflect how many people do or don't have the experiences, since those who don't are often uninterested in filling them out. I countered by suggesting that if the skeptics really wanted to show that fewer people than surveys in the past have suggested really have such experiences, then it's up to the skeptical and disbelieving members of the populace to stop ignoring them, to actually go out of their way and fill such surveys out. So, whether or not you believe in psychic phenomena, whether you've had an experience or not, providing information about your beliefs and experiences is useful. Pass it along to others, as well (especially those who might be skeptical) to get their perspectives included. Of course, the fact that you are reading this book already may mean you are interested in the phenomena, and therefore even biased that it exists. The data gathered from these surveys is not so much to gauge how much of the populace has had experiences, but to help find common factors in those experiences that can help us understand and explain them. If you are using regular mail, please send the survey to:

LOYD AUERBACH / PK SURVEY
P.O. BOX 875 ORINDA,
CA 94563-0875.

I would appreciate inclusion of your name and address on the survey, though the anonymity of all concerned will be preserved. In the future, we may want to contact you with further questions (so please be sure to answer the last question) as well as to provide you with information on publications and events that may be of interest to you. If you do not wish to put down your name and address, please still fill out the questionnaire (though it would be a big help if you give the city and state in which you live). As you answer these questions, if you have experiences to report, please feel free to write (legibly, please), type, or word-process them. Answer "yes," "no," "not sure" or "n/a" (not applicable) to the questions, and, if possible (with the "yes" answers, of course) provide an example. Some of the questions do require more of an answer, by the way. E-MAIL YOUR SURVEYS.... If you have access to e-mail, please use that for your surveys.
